Length converter
Convert between metric and imperial lengths
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How it works
To convert a length, multiply it by the size of the first unit in metres, then divide by the size of the second. One inch is exactly 2.54 centimetres, one foot is 0.3048 metres, and one mile is 1.609344 kilometres. Type in either box to convert both ways.
result = value × metres in first unit ÷ metres in second unit
Every unit here is defined by its exact size in metres. An international agreement in 1959 fixed the inch at 25.4 millimetres, so conversions between metric and imperial are exact, not estimates.
We show up to two decimal places. If a result had to be cut short, we mark it with ≈.
Worked example. To change 10 metres to feet: 10 × 1 ÷ 0.3048 ≈ 32.81 feet.
