Temperature converter
Convert between Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How it works
To change Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply by 9, divide by 5, then add 32. To change Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32, multiply by 5, then divide by 9. To change Celsius to Kelvin, add 273.15. So 100 °C is 212 °F, and also 373.15 K.
°F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32
Temperature scales start at different points, so a conversion needs an offset as well as a multiplier. The Kelvin scale starts at absolute zero, the coldest temperature possible.
Worked example. To change 100 °C to Fahrenheit: 100 × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 = 212 °F. To go back: (212 − 32) × 5 ÷ 9 = 100 °C.
Examples
| From | To |
|---|---|
| 0 Celsius | 32 Fahrenheit |
| 37 Celsius | 98.6 Fahrenheit |
| 100 Celsius | 212 Fahrenheit |
| -40 Celsius | -40 Fahrenheit |
| 0 Celsius | 273.15 Kelvin |
| 72 Fahrenheit | ≈ 22.22 Celsius |
What this tool doesn’t cover
- Values below absolute zero are refused, because they can’t exist.

Questions
At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?
They are equal at −40. So −40 °C is the same as −40 °F.
What is normal body temperature?
It is usually given as about 37 °C, which is 98.6 °F. It varies a little from person to person.
Why does Kelvin have no degree sign?
Kelvin is an absolute scale, so we say 300 kelvin, not 300 degrees.
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply by 9, divide by 5, then add 32. So 25 °C is 77 °F.
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32, then multiply by 5 and divide by 9. So 100 °F is about 37.8 °C.
