Speed converter
Convert km/h, mph, knots and metres per second
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How it works
To convert a speed, multiply it by the size of the first unit in metres per second, then divide by the size of the second. One mile per hour is exactly 1.609344 kilometres per hour, and one knot is exactly 1.852 kilometres per hour. Type in either box.
result = value × metres per second in first unit ÷ metres per second in second unit
Each speed is a distance divided by a time, so each factor follows from exact lengths. A knot is one nautical mile, or 1,852 metres, per hour.
Worked example. To change 100 km/h to mph: 100 ÷ 1.609344 ≈ 62.14 mph.
Examples
| From | To |
|---|---|
| 100 Kilometres per hour | ≈ 62.14 Miles per hour |
| 60 Miles per hour | ≈ 96.56 Kilometres per hour |
| 1 Metres per second | 3.6 Kilometres per hour |
| 1 Knots | ≈ 1.85 Kilometres per hour |

Questions
How do I change km/h to mph?
Divide by 1.609344. So 100 km/h is about 62.14 mph.
What is a knot?
A knot is one nautical mile per hour, or exactly 1.852 km/h. Ships and aircraft use it.
How do I change m/s to km/h?
Multiply by 3.6. So 10 m/s is 36 km/h.
Is mph faster than km/h?
One mile per hour is about 1.609 km/h, so 60 mph is the same speed as about 96.6 km/h.
How do I work out speed from distance and time?
