Slug generator
Turn a title into a clean URL slug
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
How it works
A slug is the readable part of a web address, such as how-to-calculate-gst. To make one, use lower case, drop accents and symbols, and join the words with hyphens. Type a title and we build it as you go. You can remove small words like “the” and “of” to keep the slug short.
Lower case, drop accents and symbols, then join the words with a hyphen.
Accents become plain letters, so é becomes e. Apostrophes are removed without splitting the word, and & becomes “and”.
Worked example. “Crème Brûlée & Coffee” becomes creme-brulee-and-coffee.
Examples

| Crème Brûlée | creme-brulee |
| Don't Stop | dont-stop |
What this tool doesn’t cover
- Only plain Latin letters and numbers are kept, so other scripts come out empty.
Questions
Should I use hyphens or underscores?
Hyphens. Google recommends them for separating words in a URL.
Should I remove small words?
It can shorten a slug. Keep them if the slug reads badly without them.
Can I change a slug later?
Yes, but add a redirect from the old address, or you’ll lose its links.
What is a URL slug?
The part of a web address that names the page, such as “best-laptops” in /blog/best-laptops.
How long should a slug be?
Short enough to read at a glance. Three to five words is a good aim, keeping the main keyword.
