Work out a tip and split the bill

Use it at https://www.quicktoolz.com/tools/tip-calculator. From QuickToolz.

To work out a tip, multiply the bill by the tip percentage, then add it to the bill. A 10% tip on ₹1,000 is ₹100, which makes ₹1,100. To split it, divide by the number of people. Tick Round up and everyone pays a whole number, with the extra going to the tip.

## How it works

each pays = bill × (1 + tip ÷ 100) ÷ people

We work in whole paise. If the bill doesn’t split evenly, some people pay one paisa less, so the shares always add up to the total.

Worked example: A ₹1,000 bill with a 10% tip is ₹1,100.00. Split between 2 people, that’s ₹550.00 each.

## Examples

| Bill | Tip | People | Each pays |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| ₹500.00 | 10% | 1 | ₹550.00 |
| ₹1,000.00 | 10% | 2 | ₹550.00 |
| ₹2,400.00 | 15% | 4 | ₹690.00 |
| ₹5,000.00 | 20% | 5 | ₹1,200.00 |

## Questions

### How much should I tip in India?

Tipping is optional. Around 5% to 10% is common in restaurants, if no service charge is on the bill.

### What does Round up do?

Each person pays the next whole rupee, and the tip and total grow to match.

### Is the tip worked out before or after tax?

It’s worked out on the amount you enter. Enter the amount you want to tip on.

### How do I split a bill with tip?

Add the tip to the bill, then divide by the number of people. This tool does both in one step.

### How do I work out a 15% tip?

Find 10% by moving the decimal point one place, then add half of that. On ₹800, 10% is ₹80 and 5% is ₹40, so the tip is ₹120.
