# QR code generator

Make a QR code for a link or text

Use it at https://www.quicktoolz.com/tools/qr-code-generator. From QuickToolz.

A QR code stores text or a link as a grid of squares that a phone camera can read. Enter your link, choose your colours, and download it as a PNG for the web or an SVG for print. It’s made in your browser. Always scan it with a real phone before printing lots of copies.

## How it works

Your text is turned into a grid of dark and light squares, with spare data so it still scans if slightly damaged.

We use medium error correction, so a code can still scan when slightly damaged. Longer text makes a denser code, which is harder to scan when small.

We warn you if your colours are too close, or if the code is light on dark.

Worked example: Enter a link, then download the code as an SVG for print or a PNG for the web. Scan it with your phone before printing lots of copies.

## What this tool doesn't cover

- A code holds about 2,900 bytes at most, and short text scans best.
- These codes are fixed. You can’t change the link after printing.

## Questions

### Do these QR codes expire?

No. The link is stored in the code itself, so it works for as long as the link does.

### Should I use PNG or SVG?

Use SVG for print, as it stays sharp at any size. Use PNG for the web.

### Why won’t my code scan?

The usual causes are low contrast, too small a size, or too much text.

### How do I make a QR code for a link?

Paste the link and download the image. The code is made in your browser, and it holds the link itself.

### What size should a printed QR code be?

At least 2 cm wide for reading up close. Make it larger for posters, at about a tenth of the scanning distance.
