# Engagement rate calculator

Work out your social media engagement rate

Use it at https://www.quicktoolz.com/tools/engagement-rate-calculator. From QuickToolz.

Engagement rate shows how many of your followers react to a post. Add up the likes, comments and shares, divide by your followers, and multiply by 100. So 500 actions on 10,000 followers is 5%. Adding your reach gives a second rate, based on the people who actually saw the post.

## How it works

engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares) ÷ followers × 100

By followers is the common public measure. By reach is often fairer, because many followers never see a given post.

Worked example: 400 likes, 50 comments and 50 shares on 10,000 followers is 500 ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 5%.

## Examples

| Followers | Actions | Rate |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1,000 | 50 | 5% |
| 10,000 | 300 | 3% |
| 100,000 | 2,000 | 2% |

## What this tool doesn't cover

- Each network counts actions differently, so compare like with like.
- We don’t show benchmarks, because published ones vary too much.

## Questions

### What is a good engagement rate?

It varies widely by network and audience size. Compare with your own past posts first.

### Should I use followers or reach?

Use reach if you have it, as it counts people who saw the post.

### What if I have no followers yet?

There’s no rate to work out, so we ask you to enter them.

### How do I calculate engagement rate?

Add up the likes, comments and shares. Divide by your followers or reach, then multiply by 100.

### Why does my engagement rate fall as I gain followers?

Larger accounts often see a smaller share of people reacting. That’s why you should compare your rate with accounts of a similar size.
