# AI image prompt formatter

Turn your idea into a tidy image prompt

Use it at https://www.quicktoolz.com/tools/ai-image-prompt-formatter. From QuickToolz.

A good image prompt names the subject, then adds style, lighting and shape. Fill in each part, and we join them into one clean prompt for any image tool. Choose Midjourney to use its --ar setting for the shape. Start with the subject, because most tools pay the most attention to the first words.

## How it works

subject, style, lighting, shape

Each part is optional except the subject, and empty parts are left out.

The shape, or aspect ratio, is width to height, so 16:9 is wide and 9:16 is tall.

Worked example: A red fox in watercolour with soft light, in a wide shape, for Midjourney: a red fox, watercolour style, soft lighting --ar 16:9

## Examples

| Shape | Good for |
| --- | --- |
| 1:1 | Social posts |
| 16:9 | Videos and banners |
| 9:16 | Stories and reels |

## What this tool doesn't cover

- Each tool reads prompts a little differently, so results vary.

## Questions

### What aspect ratio should I use?

Use 1:1 for social posts, 16:9 for banners and 9:16 for stories.

### What does --ar mean?

It’s Midjourney’s setting for the aspect ratio.

### Should prompts be long?

Not always. A clear subject and one or two details often work best.

### How do I write a good image prompt?

Say what the subject is, then add the setting, style, lighting and framing. Clear detail works better than a long list of adjectives.

### What is a negative prompt?

A list of what you don’t want, such as blur or extra fingers. Not every image model supports one.
